Translations

The Translations feature automatically detects and translates messages written in foreign languages, helping multilingual communities communicate without language barriers. It posts translations as replies or in a dedicated channel so all members can follow conversations.

How It Works

1. A member posts a message in any monitored channel.
2. InfiniTea detects the language and compares it against the server's target language.
3. If the message is in a different language and meets the confidence threshold, the bot generates a translation.
4. The translation is posted as a contextual reply or thread, preserving conversation flow.

The system uses a confidence score to avoid false positives. Only messages the engine is sufficiently confident about are translated, reducing noise from slang, code snippets, or ambiguous short text.

Operational Workflow

1. Set target language: Choose the primary language for your server (the language members should be able to read).
2. Configure confidence threshold: Set the minimum confidence percentage required before a translation is posted.
3. Enable alternatives: When turned on, moderators can see multiple translation candidates for ambiguous messages.
4. Set minimum characters: Define the shortest message length eligible for translation. This prevents the bot from attempting to translate emoji-only messages, one-word reactions, or code.
5. Test thoroughly: Send known multilingual messages to verify detection and translation quality.

Staff Policy Suggestions

• Start with a strict threshold (95% confidence) and relax only if legitimate foreign-language messages are being missed.
• Set the minimum character threshold above typical emoji-only or single-word messages (8-15 characters is a good starting point).
• Exclude bot channels and code-sharing channels where non-English text is expected but not conversational.
• Monitor the first week after enabling to identify false positives and adjust thresholds accordingly.
• If your community has multiple common languages, consider setting up language-specific channels as an alternative to automatic translation.

Limitations

• Translations depend on external language detection APIs and may occasionally misidentify languages with shared alphabets.
• Very short messages (under the character minimum) are intentionally skipped.
• Code blocks, URLs, and Discord formatting are preserved without translation.
